Terre Sicane Wine Fest, next edition on 28-29-30 July 2023

The TSWF, Terre Sicane Wine Festival, is the sharing of unique places, splendid people and great treasures of the territory.

It is the discovery of a precious and hidden corner of Sicily that slowly and lovingly reveals itself to its guests. It is the story of the territory in three intense and unforgettable days.

We visit wineries such as Donnafugata which on the Contessa Entellina estate welcomes guests in the family atmosphere of the beautiful country house and lets people know how much attention and innovation they take care of the vineyards and the entire wine production process. Wines tasted in combination with exquisite Sicilian and Belicine dishes.

Wine competitions are announced which see the awarding of identifying wines. The Terre Sicane Wine Fest 2022 wine competition awarded the

-Best Grillo won by the Antonio Gerardi Vini winery, Grillo 2021 Sicilia DOC

-Best Nero d’Avola won by Cantina Planeta, Plumbago 2019 Sicilia DOC.

While the two Pleasantness and Originality Awards were assigned to the Grillo “Coste al Vento” 2021 from Cantina Marilena Barbera Menfi DOC and to Nero d’Avola 2020 from Cantina Filari della Rocca Sicilia DOC.

You visit Menfi and the Mandrarossa company with the pleasant discovery of a “Sicily you don’t expect”. A Sicily that of the Terre Sicane rich in territorial diversity that loves to build great adventures by enhancing its immense potential. A Sicily, which, as in the case of the Mandrarossa company, has strength in a large community which with love and experimentation makes its wines known and appreciated throughout the world. A Sicily that is slowly being enjoyed more and more.

We have lunch in the Di Giovanna company in Sambuca di Sicilia, a small village where the spirit is international.

And where the welcome is typically Sicilian with tables that get bigger and bigger to welcome new diners and yet always small to contain the abundant dishes prepared. Lunch in the Di Giovanna winery is the perfect combination of traditional dishes and house wines (from Vurria Grillo-Rosato Nerello Mascalese-Rosso Nerello Mascalese to Rufulia Pet-Nat Catarratto). In particular, the delicious Minni di virgini, a typical dessert of Sambuca di Sicilia, combined with Cammurìa Orange IGP Terre Siciliane.

The Terre Sicane Wine Fest is a territorial network but also a comparison with different realities. This year the Terre Sicane Wine Route has embraced the Trentino Wine and Flavors Route. Tasting banquets and masterclasses made the production of this important region known.

The “Passo a due” Masterclass, led by Valeria Lopis and Luigi Salvo, represented an ideal encounter between two significant and rich wine-growing realities: the Sican lands and those of Trentino. The Donnafugata wines and the Trentino wines for tasting have with different expressions of grape varieties and production intrigued and enriched the knowledge of the winelovers present in the historic square of Contessa Entellina.

Equally important is the masterclass “I’ll tell you about the minor DOCs: a journey through small denominations that are a treasure trove of resistance, biodiversity and local traditions. A parallel between areas that have in common the strength of being tiny and beautiful by definition” always led by Valeria Lopis and Luigi Salvo with the participation of Marilena Barbera and Chiara Planeta for the Terre Sicane who together with Manuela Facci of the Strada Vino e Sapori del Trentino have described territories, production and valorisation of resources.

The Terre Sicane Wine Fest means getting to know Marilena Barbera’s philosophy of life and wine during a visit to the old Inzolia vineyard of the Belicello estate and the cellar.

Words that find confirmation in the vertical Dietro le case Inzolia Menfi doc Marilena Barbera, whose vintages 2019 -2018 -2015-2008 restore the personality of a unique and long-lived grape variety. Tasting the perpetual wine from Inzolia grapes is the gem of an interesting tasting that enhances a traditional vine that does not feel the need to join anything else but only to be respected.

Also in Memphis, discover places full of beauty and magic such as the Maharìa. Extraordinary location, in the historic Palazzo Planeta, for the promotion of wine and the territory. On a terrace in the shade of the over 100-year-old bouganvillae, the wine shop and restaurant offer beauty, aromas and flavors that are hard to forget.

And to conclude on a high note, participating in the key event of the Terre Sicane Wine Fest means tasting the local food and wine products in the evocative Abbey of S.
