Terra Madre salone gusto 2024

Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2024 is anticipated by a long journey that starts from Turin and spreads throughout all the regions of Italy with a series of initiatives that propose concrete models to change an agri-food system full of inconsistencies

This journey will end in Turin in September 2024 and may be made up of numerous pieces:

farmers markets
initiatives in schools
real festivals
book presentations and debates
film festivals

Starting from February, it will be possible to report the activities proposed to be part of this complex program. In the meantime, look at the calendar of initiatives that are already part of it, and which constitute pieces of what you can do.

Terra Madre 2024 takes a further step in the direction traced since 2004 – when for the first time the Salone del Gusto was accompanied by the large meeting of the food communities which changed not only the history of the event but that of Slow Food. The chosen theme does not neglect the gravity of the moment and the urgency of action but does not focus exclusively on the crisis and instead uses all its assets to bring a perspective, a positive impetus towards the future.

The times of great crises we are experiencing, first of all the climate crisis, require profound changes. To implement them, new paradigms are needed and therefore the abandonment of many comfort zones.

The new geographies of 2020 and the regeneration of 2022 were stages of approaching the fundamental step that we propose with the 2024 edition: being nature, understood as the balanced relationship of human beings with nature, with all of nature.

We must recover the feeling of wonder, fascination and amazement for nature. We must become fully aware of the fact that, as human beings, we are part of nature. And we must be so by having greater awareness of what nature is and what it means to be part of it, in a non-conflictual but balanced and harmonious way. We have forgotten that we are nature, animals among animals.

The gentle revolution we propose is precisely this: rediscovering people’s relationship with the natural world, rediscovering ourselves as part of nature. A complex and detailed awareness, to be achieved in a gradual and at the same time joyful way.

FOOD AS A LINK BETWEEN NATURE AND CULTURE

Slow Food, through Terra Madre, believes it can indicate this path towards a new relationship with nature and in nature better than anyone else, because food is the most powerful element that leads us back to the earth, the soil, the water, but it is also culture, sharing, pleasure. It is the perfect link between nature and culture.
